|
|
I'm one of the few people who don't have a cell phone and can't afford to get one at this point. I want to have a phone patch set up. I saw the
Plantronics CT 12 2.4 GHZ DSS Cordless Headset Phone w/ Caller ID
which I can use with my land line. Does anyone use a phone patch system with their land line? If so, which one? Or have any input on this particular set up?
Thanks in advance for your help. |

Chrissy, I don't understand why you mention a cell phone and the phone patch. However, I do have a phone patch with land line. I use the THAT-2 and have for a few years and I love it. It runs straight into my board and the phone. When I record with a client on the line I pan my voice hard left and the client's hard right. It took a little playing with to get used to but works wonderfully. I can hear them on one side of my headphones and myself on the other and they hear me clearly while I'm in the booth. Hey, since you're not too far away, you're always welcome to come by and check it out! Or we could even do a phone call so you can hear what it's like. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Chrissy,
I too use a land line with my Phone Patch.
I have a JK Audio AutoHybrid that I have connected to my landline phone & run through my mixer. Works great.
If you do a search on "Phone Patch" you should find the thread that has a .pdf file I created to show my set-up.
If you can't find it, give a shout & I'll email you the doc.

I use a Telos ONE but since you mentioned money is an issue, look into simply using any headset with your POTS line... I have YET to have any client ask for playback.
PEACE.

i've used a little gentner "hybrid coupler" for many years. it's about the size of a thin brick, and i think it cost around 100 bucks. don't know if they are still being made, but it's done good work for me. and i have had times when the client on the other end wanted a playback...just not when i was the one in the booth.
before i got the gentner, i put a little headset telephone from radio shack in my mic booth so i could hear direction while recording. it was a little cumbersome, but got me through a number of sessions. _________________ rowell gormon

If you have broadband (and I would recommend faster than DSL), then you can be cheap like me and use skype.
I think a number is $30 a year, and unlimited calling to the US and Canada is another $30 a year (or $3 a month, or .021 a minute with no subscription).
Set it up to use the ins and outs of your soundcard and your done. _________________ Hey! Whaddaya hear?

I've had a handful of clients ask for playback, and none of them had their act together...to paraphrase...
"Just a second...I think you said modules and not module in 47. We wrote modules, but now that I think of it what's better grammar guys...with or without the s on the end? Could you play it back?"
Recording a pickup or alt is always quicker and more efficient than playing back, but whatever. I always provide playback capability just in case the client brings their Z game. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Using the Symetrix TI-101 I got from E-Bay for about $120. It runs through my Mackie mixer and can be set up where I hear the client in my left ear. If you can find one it's a great piece of equipment. |

Again I want to thank everyone for the suggestions. I'm continuing to check these items out.
Bill, Can I run the Symetrix TI-101 through an M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface? I'm still not very tech savvy although I'm slowly learning. |

i got rid of my TI-101... if i remember correctly though, don't you have to split/strip the pair since it uses screws for the connection and not an RJ-11? That would be a pain for a non-techy.

Yes Anthony it would be more than a pain for me. I'd be coercing Chuck Davis to come over and help me again. Thanks. |

One solution I see often for external soundboards like the Fast Track and the Firebox is to get a small mixer, like a Tapco Mix 50 or a Behringer Xenix 502 and use one of the other outputs to run the signal through the mixer to the phone patch. If you search around, I believe some have posted that diagram, but I can't find it myself. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

I'll second an above post: Go with Skype. I don't have a landline anymore; Skype works fine as a phone patch. $35 a year unlimited calling in North America. Depending on your setup, you might need a dedicated second mic or headset to run it parallel to your main mic for sessions, but that's it. |

Thanks Bob and Haneen. Since $$$ is so tight and my lack of techy abilities so high, I'm trying to address these givens while also attempting to get decent reception. I don't ask for much do I? |
