Dear Gang— I wanted you to know that we've been out in the Orkney Isles and have just arrived home to Portgordon.
I'll be posting pictures as soon as I can get my camera's battery recharged.
Confounded thing (new) ran out ON THE FERRY RIDE OVER so I used Anne Banks' camera all weekend.
To bed first. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Deirdre,
Thanks for the update. Rest is a good thing. Recharging batteries both literal and virtual ... even better. _________________ Be well,

Here are Philip and Anne— we're on the ferry geting ready to go upstairs.
Here is The Old Man of Hoy. Very Nifty stone column standing separately from the cliff.
Here is the bar on the ferry— when we weren't outside looking at birds and the sea this was a very fine place to be.

There is something so very strange about the idea of you being in Portgordon....
....how perfect!
I'm still waiting for someone to head out to Tokyo. Kinda getting lonely out here. _________________ www.michaelrhys.com

The Orkney Adventure
The view out the front window of the cottage
The old mill up the road
A nearby field. There were old stone "ruins" like this all over the place— and NO TREES.
The most intrepid plant in the world— so green, and flowering, right in the rocks next to the sea.

Beautiful pics DB!
Dunno how I'd feel w/o trees around. Do you feel a bit exposed? |

It's what makes the country so peculiarly beautiful.
Loads of rolling hills; lush, lush green pastures, and thousands of farm animals.
The no trees thing is because of the unending wind.
There are actually occasional small trees in the lee of a substantial hill (a real surprise!), but none that are free standing, and no forrests.
All the old houses are made of stone around here. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Oh DB, Those are fab piccies. Thanks for sharing. I love Scotland. The heather, the beaches. I know you had a great time. Did you see some animals in the water when you took the ferry?

Mike and Big James, your neck of the woods is on my list of places to go and things to do. Believe me we do not forget about you guys.
D.B. and DeWitt, You know you are making us all jealous here stuck in the snow country - yes, we had SNOW yesterday here in the hills of Utah.
Give our VO love to Phillip and Anne. My Ann says "hello" to her UK counterpart!

Deebs, I'm jealous and in awe... jealous because when we were over there a few years ago, we didn't have near enough time to see everything we wanted to see, and the Orkneys didn't make our list, even though we wanted to. Awe, because you got to work and visit with Philip and Ann...
make the most of it lassie!! _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

Beautiful... and somewhat eery as well, because that stone column reminds me of this.
