So, at first I didn't really 'get' Twitter... A casting director I admire switched from blogging to Tweeting, and now I'm really liking it. Anyone else on Twitter? Thoughts?

I simply can't find the time to keep up with it.

I don't think what I'm doing is so interesting that I need to keep other people apprised of my movements every 15 minutes all day long.

Perhaps I don't get it!

I'm on twitter. It reprints my blog. From what I understand, you don't really have to do anything. It can keep track of multiple blogs and things.

Maybe i just don't get it either.

Amy,

I've looked long and hard at Twitter. Several of my friends in various places are using it. But, thus far I've not jumped in that pool because I can't really afford to add one more thing to my plate. And I don't want to add something like Twitter and then not stay on top of it. So for now I remain your tWitless friend, Bob. Ninja

I like Twitter! You don't have to write something every day, you can update whenever. I like knowing when one of my friends books a gig, or is doing something cool. It's an easy way to keep up with everything.

I think there is a way to link everything together so that when you update- it updates all the various sites.

Between working, packing, blogging, etc- I barely have a spare second for anything! But Twitter is easy to check and read while files render or upload.

If you want to follow me- I'm karaedwards. Amy, what are you so I can find you?

I like the idea of it.
I just thought I was doing its community a disservice by not being more involved!

I used to put descriptive "what I'm doing" stuff in my IM "present" or "away" message. I've heard of people getting work that way!
Not in VO, but still. . . .

The aforementioned casting director just Tweeted the breakdown on her latest project with a link to self-submit electronically. I submitted. Wink

Edited to add: Ok-- I'm thinking I really like Twitter. I heard a guy from the NY Times interviewed about Twitter (he apparently recently wrote a piece on it) and it completely changed my head about it. It appears to have the potential of being a time-saver for me.

Keeping up with long blog posts and individual newsletters and RSS feeds was just impossible for me. Constraining folks to 140 characters means you get a stream of pithy observations and brief updates. It seems more like a conversation, a connectedness. It only takes a second to get caught up, and catch others up. I may well have finally found one of these electronic social spaces that actually fits with my schedule and the way my mind werx.

I've been looking at Twitter..but haven't decided that I have anything worth using it for. There is also a similar micro-bloggin service called Identi.ca.

The judge is still out.

Interesting quote about Twitter from Walter J. Carl, an assistant professor of communications studies at Northeastern University, whose research focuses on social media:

“The people who I see using it (Twitter) are an older demographic, people in marketing or P.R. or advertising, who use it for work, to present themselves as particular types of people. They’ll twitter, ‘I’m traveling,’ or ‘I’m going to interesting restaurants.’ They’re using it to do identity work.”

Peter O., you listening?

That's interesting; the people I see twittering are all across the map, agewise. I'm spacewriter on twitter.

Hmmm... Makes me wonder how I ever survived the 50s and 60s.
All I had was a land-line... TV... newspapers... radio... and snail mail.
I some how survived those years... but I can't keep up with the present.
.
.
.
I thought a twitter was a person who twits.
