Just read this and I thought, "Where do we find a balance between satisfying consumer need and protecting intillectual property?"
Didn't Kayfer work on Mass Effect? Do you know anything about the DRM that was implied by one of the posters?
PEACE.

I don't know. I have games on my system that I bought and loaded on there five years ago, so put into the context of EA's DRM terms, I'm still on my first activation for them.
It will mostly suck for the types that constantly upgrade and reload their machines. _________________ Greg Littlefield

My kids have run into this with some of their games - their computer has had to be reformatted twice in the last month, ironically because of Sims-related downloads that corrupted the OS.
Yeah, EA has crossed the line. |

I agree .... why knowingly infect your system with a DRM that itself can mess up other programs on you system? and, treat you like a criminal when you aren't one? _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

"We anticipate that you will act in bad faith".
Way cool.
It's the way things are in too many parts of our lives:
- in academia or business, legions of goons hired to check and see if your expenses actually are what you say they are.
- with insurance companies, legions of goons hired to deny benefits.
- with performers' unions, legions of goons hired to scrutinize your earnings so you don't maliciously contribute to your pension.
This DRM biz with Spore may sink its ship. What a shame! It may well be the most hotly anticipated game EVAR and it comes with a millstone around its neck. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I downloaded Spore Creature Creator and have had fun playing with it, but the demo version doesn't have the DRM; I can't imagine I'd buy the program so I could infect my machine. Way to go EA. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

Judy's a SIMS2 player and is anxiously awaiting SIMS3. I wonder if EA will put the same lockdown on that one.

I assume by "Kayfer", you're referring to me.
I know nothing about the DRM being used. I worked on the Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect which was published by Microsoft. The PC version of the game was published by EA after they bought the developer, Bioware. I have no knowledge of what EA may or may not be doing since that acquisition. _________________ Jeff

Give it a month and some hacker will have a crack for this which will negate any potential gains for this DRM problem.

This type of "security for payment" is what SAG is insisting upon in their latest round of negotiations with the Interactive Producers. O wonder if this "protection" will mean VO Artists can put a SecuCom DRM on our work, so after two dubs by the producer we can get paid again and again, but only if they call and beg us to "trust" them?
EA has definitely passed the point of acceptance with this "trick/virus", in my opinion.

Frank,
The cracked Spore program came out a day or three before the official release in the U.S. last week. So, EA is basically annoying legally paid customers to "prevent" what the pirates had already done... _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |
