Marvin Gaye's greatest hits, especially "Mecy, Mercy me (the ecology)".

Great tune, too.

I hate to show my sci-fi/comicbook Geek roots here, but, oh well...

A little ditty I've been enjoying is "The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny", by Lemon Demon. It was written with the intent of being used in a flash cartoon (of the same name) which has been riding the top of the charts on Newgrounds for weeks upon weeks. You can find the song at http://fyad.org/7p2z or watch the cartoon (recommended, it's hilarious) at http://newgrounds.com/portal/view/285267

And just for the record, I have never worn rubber Spock ears, watched an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh, or read a book to learn how to speak Klingon. I may be a nurd but I still have some semblance of pride left.

Diedre: Enjoyed the tune and have added it to my playlist.

BillElder: Todd is a guy that never got the recognition he deserves, IMO. I'm particulary fond of the song "Love of the Common Man". I never really cared for the song "Bang the Drum All Day" until I got a set of bongos for Christmas and found... it's true!

GregAllen: The entire "What's Goin' On" is great and amazingly relevant still in today's world. (and then of course, "Let's Get It On")

A song I've had to listen to repeatedly through the day and then one more time before I go to bed...
Sam Cooke - A Change Is Gonna Come

And two tunes that just break my heart:

Stan Getz and Bill Evans - The Peacocks
Pure emotion transferred from heart to sound through a reed.

Lyle Mays - Something Left Unsaid
Marc Johnson's bass leaves me with that hollow feeling you get in your chest when you longingly reminisce about a lost love in your distant past and you can hardly breathe.

I pulled out Shelby Lynne's "I Am Shelby Lynne" cd and have been listening to it the past few days. Great voice, very soulful, and very sad at times. Good stuff. Her album "Love, Shelby" sucked. The record label tried to make her into a pop diva or something. Everything before and after that one is great.

Hi Charlie,

I've listened to a little bit of Manthing...seen some video too. He's pretty wild! Lately I've been getting into some looping myself..listening mostly to Steve Lawson for that though.

Yea, on those notes:

Getz: La Fiesta -- Cannot get enough of that. I just simply cannot.
Evans: Box set: The Last Waltz -- recorded live about 7 days before his death. The gig was a one week stint at Kimball's East. Believe me, he does not sound like a man who would be in a grave within 7 days. 42nd Street blows me away.

And, yes, I actively listen to both. Getz when I want to experience an upright bass player and rhythm section that's totally in another zone with a leader who takes it to an entirely different level. Evans: Ditto.

I should not forget Mike Stern, either. That's enough from me!

And, then, there's the violinist I met several month ago. Has anyone ever seen Lili Haydn, live? She's called the Jimi Hendrix of the violin. She deserves it. It was the first time in my life that I actually BECAME a groupie.

Some sharing from my living room Sergio's new album, which I'll leave up only for a bit):

Sergio Mendez with the Black Eyed Peas
Sergio with Steve Wonder
Sergio with Indira

I LOVE THIS!!!

I saw the cartoon a while ago and showed it to everyone who came in the house.

God, I am such a pest.

I hope everybody watches this cartoon-- it really is a scream!

Oh, and last, but not least, here one that's on my current playlist:

Randy Newman and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra with members of The New York Philharmonic, Louisiana 1927, from the CD Our New Orleas 2005.

Enjoy!

Now, I've got to get to Whistle While You Work!

That Lemon Demon song is addictive! I am on my sixth play already. Stupid-fun songs are just what you need to get your day going... along with a triple espesso.

Thanks for the link!

Today it's Gabe Dixon. I thought I heard one of his songs on an NBC promo last night. It was some law show with some actors in it. <g> Other than that, I'm lost.
