|
|
Hi All,
I am looking for a way to dramatically increase my upload speed to my ftp. My cable ISP has a 7mb download and a 5 upload, yet, all I can get is 56k when using my FTP Commander and Firefox. I called my ISP and they were no help.
Can you?
Thanks!

I use CuteFTP Pro.
So you believe the hype of cable speed? Do a speed check and you might find a lot of inconsistency and find the truth behind the hype. If you were using FIOS I might believe that kind of speed, but not on cable as you share your connection with neighbors.

I'm using FileZilla and cable. I get 3mbps uploads. This week a 250mb file took about 15 minutes to upload. |

You may have a fast pipe here, but don't forget the overall performance is dependent upon the receiving end, too. If the FTP server is in Bangalore, you may have other network conditions along the way that prevent speeds you'd like. _________________ Jeff

Todd,
If you use Firefox as your browser, the FireFTP plug-in is simple to use and well done. _________________ Be well,

But, as I stated above, File Zilla is one of the programs I use. Why are you guys getting huge upload speed and I am stuck at 56k? This happens on every server I send files, too. |

What Frank and Jeff said,
Your ISP may be slow based on traffic.
Your ethernet card in the computer should be a fast one.
Are you uploading to your host company or another?
How about your modem and connection?
You might check to make sure your system is not using a 56k onboard modem.
www.speedtest.net has multiple sites to check speed based on your geolocation. |

Yeah...I'm on Cable & I noticed a HUGE slowdown the first week school was back in session....
OK...so I just did the MySpeedtest.COM thing & got these results:
Download Speed: 2695 kbps (336.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 977 kbps (122.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
THEN did the Speedtest.NET thing & got these results:
Download Speed: 6592 kbps
Upload Speed: 1917 kbps
Seems like quite a disparity in numbers.... I'm confused

.net domains are always slower than .coms
No, I'm kidding. I just did a search for the speed test I listed, I have no experience with the reliability of it. The problem with these tests is that you don't know where THEY are. You'll want to find a speed test as close to you as possible for the most accurate reporting. _________________ Jeff

Well, the speed test revealed a 5mb download and a 500k upload. (Very different from what I was told from the cable co.) But, even so, there are 440Kbps missing from my transfers.
Side note: I am only a half mile from the cable co. servers. I have never really noticed a slow down. |

Well, then that would be the Speedtest.NET results of:
Download Speed: 6592 kbps
Upload Speed: 1917 kbps
the server used is less than 20 miles away.
Still not sure if those numbers are good/bad/indifferent

Liz, those speeds are pretty darn fast. And a lot faster than what I get even after getting an upgrade from Verizon.
Me want. |
