|
|
Hi there - I am teaching a writing unit at UCSD Extension's Digital Art Center's Multimedia Course and they have a new Blog that we will be using to post info, links, etc.
I can't figure out how to post pdfs and docs - I see how to add media (video, audio, images, etc.) files, but it doesn't have an obvious button to upload documents. Anyone know how to do this? _________________ Playing for a living...

Use the same Add Media button... that should let you upload and insert the link into the post... |

Connie,
I use wordpress and have a link to a pdf on one of my pages. I had to write in the link as a normal html link as if you were linking to a picture or something. So, when you're at the dashboard, simply type in the sentence like this:
This document tells you about the facility.
(The link in "document' above takes you to an actual project I did that I'm using as the example.)
And in the dashboard, you highlight the word "document" and then click on the link icon to create a link to the doc (pdf, whatever) that should be uploaded somewhere...
I realize this is kinda arcane -- pm me your phone number and I'll talk you through it if you like.

So you can't upload a document to the blog itself - you have to store it on your own server and link to it - much like we do here at VO-BB?
Just want to be sure I am not overlooking something. _________________ Playing for a living...

Right,. you have to have it uploaded somewhere to link to it. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

What version of WP are you using? I've got 2.6.2 on one of many many WP installs and have no problem uploading a F and inserting into the post.
Upload EXACTLY the same way you would a picture and click insert into post...
Works just fine here...
I'm around if you need some guidance... |

I'm using 2.6.2 and uploading files to my own server; I assume Liz will have to do the same (loading files to some server) and then linking as you and I suggested. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

Version 2.6 - it keeps telling me a new version is available, but I am not the person to do that upgrade. Would going up that little bit allow uploading to the server? Rather than me uploading to mine and then making a link (like we do here)? _________________ Playing for a living...

Possibly, I don't know if that was a change from 2.6 - 2.6.2...
2.7 is coming out shortly... however, you will want to upgrade anyway as there have been some pretty significant security fixes in 2.6.2
Are you able to upload images ok? If not, then the problem is most likely a directory permissions issue...
Also, Wordpress is very picky about file names. Make sure there are only letters and numbers in the file names, no punctuation or special characters or spaces. As a rule, I label all lowercase one word... and use an underscore_if_i_need_to.
Hope this helps!
