Anyone having problems with Skype? I heard they had been seriously hacked from somewhere in China, but I haven't seen anything yet.

Since download of the latest update (3.8.0.180), I've lost some audio. When I go to the Skype Test Call, my headphones go dead when I'm suppose to record a test. I don't think anything has changed in my hook-up, but my headphones keep dropping out.

I did read that somebody in China found a "back door" to allow government to eavesdrop on skype, but skype claims they will fix that...

Rumors have been surfacing for years about hackers cracking the Skype protocol. Let me just say that it IS possible, however, Skype uses a Super Node technology which uses your computer to help other users throughout the world make Skype calls possible; this is a specific use of P2P (Peer-To-Peer) technology.

Should the hack be a "real" event (not likely) it is designed; per Snopes.com, as a threat only in the text messaging area of Skype. This is an easy fix by the makers of Skype and they are aware of the threat.

Skype 3.8xxx doesn't work with my Mackie Spike XD-2 DSP converter. I had to revert to an earlier version.

I vid conferenced w/ hubby and the kids all week while I was in Hawaii and the only issue I had was that it didn't recognize any mic when the camera wasn't plugged in. It wasn't the end of the world and certainly not controversial.

I must say that their new commercial, where the guy reads a bedtime story to his kid, hit home right before I left. I probably would never have noticed it if I wasn't about to leave. It made me remember to bring the web cam.
