Hey!

OK....I'm on the Verizon network
My 2 years was up & they gave me a $50 credit for my old phone + a $70 rebate on a Blackberry 8130.

Just got it today....not sure I'm really thrilled with it....it just doesn't seem very intuitive, the keys are REALLY small, and maybe I'm just getting fed up with having to learn a whole new device every few years!

Curious:
What do you guys have & are you happy with it?

I upgraded to get web access (Yeah, my old phone wasn't web-enabled) and I have 30 days to return this one.... so I figured I'd ask you guys for advice!

Any input is always appreciated!

Liz

Cingular 8525 Pocket PC.

Dropped one too many times so the ringer, doesn't. And a few other annoyances, like a software (screen) keypad, and a USB heeadset jack (instead of the 2.5mm plug).

But having the Hobo LaughingA and phone as one unit makes it worth putting up with for a while.

Liz, I'm glad you posted this. I'm going to get a new phone in December (I get $150 credit if I stay with Sprint, though I'm not sure I'm going to), and I'd like to hear what people like/dislike.

I've used other people's Blackberrys - they're not terribly intuitive, I agree.

My Blackberry is in a 12 oz. SMUCKERS jar.

Keep your regular phone and check out the PEEK, available at TARGET.
It's an email device only. $100 to buy it and $20 a month for service with
NO CONTRACT.

Wall Street Journal and several other publications really like it.

I looked at one at Target, it looks very easy to use. If I needed mobile email
I would defintely buy one.

Liz,

This won't help you much because I'm on the AT&T network, but a couple of weeks ago I took delivery on the brand new Palm Treo Pro, which is an unlocked device that can work on any GSM network in the world. (That would be AT&T and T-Mobile, for example, here in the States.)

http://www.palm.com/us/products/smartphones/treopro/index.html

This is one seriously sweet machine. It wasn't cheap, but it does everything I want it to, including keeping my calendar and address book synced between home, office and web (with an add-on from Plaxo), sounds wonderful, does email and web as well as any mobile device I've ever used. But, again, it doesn't help you because they don't have a version for the Verizon network.

8120. Cincinnati Bell. No contracts.
Yeah, I love it. When the remnants of Ike blew thru here a few weeks ago and knocked out all the power, I still had email.
I'd like to get the add ons that have a pocket sized Word and Opera, but that's on hold for now.

I got a Verizon XV6900 about a month ago. It's a touch phone Hobo LaughingA. No teensy buttons, but you do have to use a stylus for the teensy virtual buttons. I've gotten quite fond of it.

I'd rather have an iPhone but AT&T service is not so good akshully around here.

I've had a Blackberry Pearl (8100 I believe) for 2 1/2 years. I'm with AT&T.

The intuitive typing takes awhile to get used to, requires a little bit of faith... Other than that it's a lifesaver, but they don't call them "crackberries" for nothing...they're very addictive. If you are OK with always being accessible, go for it. But you cannot turn off the email by itself, leaving only the phone. It's all or nothing.

Oh, the Pearl's size also sold me. Since I carry mine in my shirt pocket, the other BB's are too big.

Have fun,

Jim

OK...I'm actually quite proud of myself.

I just packed up the blackberry & was on the phone with a VERY helpful verizon customer service rep getting my old phone reprogrammed & up & running again...AND I actually DO have mobile access on this phone...it's not pretty... but I added web access to my plan & at least I can check my gmail when I'm in NYC....and now I can take my time to find a phone/Hobo LaughingA that I will like.

Keep the info coming though!

Off to the Verizon store to return the BB!

Thanks to all!

Liz

I've been through many smart phones over the last five years, most of them Windows CE or Mobile 5 based, and a couple Palm OS. I now have a Blackberry Curve 8330 with T-Mobile, and it is hands down the best, most reliable phone I've ever used. T-mobile is 2nd to Verizon in LA for coverage, but they have great customer service and the data packages are cheap.
Once I learned the interface, I find it very intuitive, and no phone does email as well as the Blackberry. This phone even has WIFI, but I never use it. I use the Google Maps that track your location based on triangulation of cell towers as I drive around LA to show what the traffic patterns are doing.
Slightly OT, some really cool voice activated aHobo Tounges that are FREE and work with ANY phone:

I have what George has a Blackberry Curve 8330 through Verizon. Verizon has the best coverage in our remote area. Only had the phone a few weeks. I can tether my laptop to it to access the internet. Love it so far.

Thanks for all your input!
I looked at a bunch of the phones in the Verizon store when I returned the Blackberry and liked MCM's and the Palm based one....but I think I'm going to wait till the Storm comes out as well, just to see what it'slike snd then decide.

Till now my humble flip will do! Rolls Eyes
