I like Frank's idea, after all, the stock market rises and falls based on expectations so why shouldn't everything else?

More and more people are buying motorcycles for the mile p/gallon advantage. Prime riding season has just hit the east coast. As more and more people dump their cars in favor of bikes, I fully expect gas prices to go down.

Philip is still a 'lucky' European. Gas prices in The Netherlands are currently @ € 1,68 per liter regular unleaded. Since one US gallon equals 3,785 liter, that would be €6,36 or $9.86 a US gallon... so glad I'm in the Dutch Caribbean at the moment... where the current price equals $ 4.76 a US gallon as of today after a 20% price increase last week.

Frank... you are so funny!! I just got your message.

At Frank's encouragement, I'll repost the message I deleted, but I'm going to add to it.

Basically, what I was saying was...

While conservation of gas consumption is VERY important (believe me, my lead foot is now a feather foot), it really isn't the be all end all of gas prices going down. The dollar needs to gain back its strength and then we'll likely see prices come back down, b/c as of now, we're buying gas with a weak dollar, so it costs more.

Also, US consumption of gas IS down - 7% this year, I believe. Which is really remarkable. Now, if China would lower their consumption, that would help!!

(Hubby and I discuss these things regularly).

We have to believe it IS happening.

The results of this little experiment are amazing.

Spread the word "gasoline prices are dropping and prices are expected to be under $2.00/gallon".

This is not a leap of faith, but rather putting faith to work for all of us.

I am actually waiting for the media to pick up on our little catechism * (that will be interesting).

* cat - e - chism A body of fundamental principles or beliefs, especially when accepted uncritically.

Caryn - I don't expect lower consumption to bring the price down, I would just like for it to lower my bills. Smile

Sorry, I should've quoted what I was referring to. My response was more based on Bruce's reply.

As a youngster I recall gas at 23 cents a gallon, and that seems more than fair to me. Frank, I like your way of thinking!

Amazing results we're seeing folks - gas price yesterday on the way home was $2.71/gallon - still not under $2.00 but we have three weeks until the election.

Keep the faith!

I have nothing to add to this conversation. but let me add that I too have nothing to add.
It's a great idea. It falls right under that you get what you focus on.

Frank beat me to it. The first thing I thought was Bruce for President.

This is so funny, Frank. I have just finished recording a New Thought CD -- and I know this concept well. It's nothing new, of course -- faith moves mountains, so why not the price of gas? Whatever the price, I'll still drive my Mini, and only as required. It's the same as when you lose ten pounds on a diet, and then go back to eating the way you used to.

And good news, Caryn. The USD is up against the CAD!

Peace,

Can we all try this power of positive thinking to lowering the prices on something else we find useful? I think we should target Neumann microphones next. It took about 6 months to lower gas prices so I'm willing to wait 6 months to lower the price of Neumann's. Let's keep it realistic, and just shoot for a 50% reduction.. Thanks one and all from the bottom of my wallet.

We are not done with gasoline prices -- yet.

Neumann's... well, I think we have to go after the greater good.

Me too. And every time I see one of these discussions about the price of gas, I am reminded that when the great oil crisis hit in the 1970s -- the one with all the shortages and long lines at the gas stations -- the price of gas shot up to around 78 cents a gallon.
