'Pologize if this is the subject of a previous thread, but I'm not having much luck finding anything in the archives.
I'm tired of running everything through my mixer... willing to spend a little cash on a really good sound card. It needs to be able to take a digital input from my Aphex 230.
Anybody had luck with any particular brand? Model?
Your time in considering this message is appreciated.

Lynx Two. No personal experience with the card but its rep precedes it. I've got an M-Audio 2496 in my DAW... currently not active but works well when it is. |

Dave,
The Echo Mia Midi is a good card, too.

Hi!
I believe the E-MU cards are pretty nice. The one I have, the 1616m, is the sweetest piece of hardware I have purchased yet. In fact, I disposed of my old mixer (gave to my brother) and use the included PatchMix software for all routing purposes.
So far, so good!
All the best,

I have the E-mu 1212 which is supposed to be the same chips as the 1616 I think the number of I/O's is the difference...probably a little more to it than that. It's a little cheaper. Yes very nice card.
There is also a mixer in Adobe Audition too. |

If you are looking for an external box, the Focusrite Saffire firewire unit is outstanding. I've been using mine for about a year now and I am very grateful to the engineer that recommended it to me.
I plugged it in and downloaded the drivers as directed and it was a quick and easily installation, a no brainer. Everything worked smoothly right from the start.

If you have an iMac or newer Macbook or Mac Mini, it has built-in digital input. You just need a Coaxial - Optical converter. I just so happen to have one up for grabs on the give-away thread. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Just remember, Emu is really good, but their parent company killed them off this year. For less expensive gear I highly recommend the Echo products. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Resurrecting this thread to say I purchased a Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum card on E-bay for $120. It comes with a card in the back, a break-out bay in the front and even a hand-held remote. Accepts optical or S/PDIF input and installed/runs like a charm.
