Just got this job description in an e-mail from Voice 123:

We’re a very small company and are looking for a warm and pleasant male voice to do the following narration. What we’re looking for is “experienced and trustworthy, but friendly airline captain” voice. NOT top-40 DJ, not used-car or classic rock radio station voices. Accent should be standard American. The deliverables to us should be 30 distinct MP3s or WAVs (your choice). These will be used in an online “flash” presentation highlighting some of the benefits of the software. The complete script is below – if you see any obvious mistakes or have any questions, let us know. Our budget for this is $100 or less – please provide your best offer as price is a concern. This does not need to be an academy award quality job, but it should be competent and professional and a whole lot better than we can do ourselves. Payment will be via PayPal or, if you have the ability, by credit card.

I just put my mic on ebay!! Undecided

yeah, I saw that one too. There was another one the other day on IV I think for 30,000 words for like $100.00

Where's the big sigh "smilie" when you need it?

They're clearly missing a Zero.

Or a few screws.
Take your pick.

If you meet both of these requirements...you are obviously a dirty, dirty tramp. Perhaps they should take THIS route: http://www.cedgeonline.com/voiceover/homesite/vo_guy_in.htm

With a budget of $100.00 or less... I would advise them to take the money, buy your own microphone, and quit wasting my time.
You might as well go to Donovan's, order the best steak in the house... but first tell them that you can only pay $10.00 or less.

It's not a joke. If you go to Bob Taylor's website you also can see where to buy jingles and "The Instant Radio Station." I believe those were the production elements you heard in the demo.

It's a niche thing but I bet there are many a 14 year old webcaster saving up their pennies.

And yes, he's a bit "pukey" if you want to call it that at times, but not always. Sounds very old school radio to me and that's not a bad thing in the right context. I've seen Bob do a lot of nice things for a lot of people.

He's not you and you're not him. Doesn't mean either one of you is better or worse than the other, just different people going for a different audience.

Funny thing is the V123 lead will probably render lots of responses given the cattle call numbers that the site has surmounted over the last few years. Sad.

Farking duh, d00d.

It's just rather ridiculous to have 4 sets of text that read "Actual Edit Example 7 Elements" or "Actual Edit Example 10 Elements" and when you click to listen you hear--not the "actual edits" but the SAME PITCH FOR EACH SAMPLE.

If I wanted the pitch I woud "Take A Listen To The Presentation".

I agree 100%, Deirdre. What a joke.

No, DB, I only had to listen to it once - there must be a glitch for you when you tried.

And to answer another poster - if it is working for him - great! I just keep thinking about how much work it must be for anyone buying the "elements."

Okay, so his site might need a little tweaking on the demo's but to a small radio station or internet station that can't afford a retainer for an imaging talent or even afford to do some liners on a buyout it's not a bad deal at all. It's actually a good way to at least get some $$$ out of some stations who you normally wouldn't and it's a way they can get a better sound for their station. Hell, if he want's to do it more power to him. No sweat off my a$$. Just trying to show a little reasoning behind it. I've seen guys in this biz do ALOT worse.

Hi everyone...

Must have been some glitch when you listened Deebs...all the links worked fine and did not repeat the same pitch when I visited.

And as for Bob...

He's a real standup guy I'm pleased to say is among those I count as my friends...just like the folks on this board...very willing to help anybody he can. Just because he has developed a vehicle to market to a particular niche (granted a low budget one) that most folks here choose not to serve doesn't mean he shouldn't do it...or that he isn't successful at it.

I have issues with IV and Voice123 et al as well and consider them fair game (as faceless corporations) for critque and critisism in a broad/general sense. However, I think some of the posts, in this case targeted at an individual, seem unnecessarily harsh for this board. One size (puke or otherwise) doesn't fit all. A fact I am most thankful for...otherwise I wouldn't be making a living at this either.

Wow! Not asking for much, are they?

A substitute teacher makes more than that!!

If you're that broke, staying in business should be a concern!

Academy Award Quality job it won't be. . .and for that price, I'd say hire yourself and save your 100 dollars, you probably need it! Shocked

I have to agree with Dave. I count Bob among my friends as well. Of late, there have been a few threads here where the criticism has become quite mean spirited and aimed at a particular individual's talent or marketing methods. It certainly isn't my place to judge a person's ability or how he or she goes about making an honest living. Three years ago new corporate owners threw me into the street. I found myself turning mulch for $8.50 an hour. Just yesterday I turned on my mic, voiced for twenty minutes and made $300. It's all relative. Honest work for honest pay is its own reward.
