As long as they spell your name right on the check, you're ahead of the game. _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.

Hi Anthony,
What everyone else says. I feel your humility. I've been there.
I've worked on at least three theatrical trailers in the past year or so, where I thought I was going to final (and was paid as though I was), only to have a last minute change. You can't take it personally. Sometimes it's politics. Sometimes it's favors, Sometimes, you have no idea, but usually, you never find out why.
The thing that always makes it smart a little more is when you tell others about your score, in all your joy and enthusiasm. Then, have to say... "Uh, well... never mind."
The first time this happened to me was in 2004. I told everyone I'd ever met from birth that I was going to be on the trailer for this particular major motion picture, because it was my first theatrical trailer and I was really excited. It had been a personal career goal that was finally coming true. I was feeling terrfic until I went to my manager's web site and noticed another talent's name being heralded for the same flick. I'd already gotten paid and was told that the director and studio had signed off on me, so I thought it was a done deal. But finding out by accident -- on my own -- that way -- was the part that felt like a punch in the gut. But I consulted with a good friend and mentor who reassured me that this kind of stuff happens all the time, and as long as you're getting paid, that's all that really matters. This same gent had just collected close to forty grand for an entire compaign (trailer, TV, radio) only to be changed out after the first week. It happens all the time. And the guy I'm referring to is one of the best and the brightest to ever voice trailers. He's no slouch, or someone with only a few years or a couple of credits behind him, either. My skin grew a little thicker after that phone call and it's served to protect me well, ever since.
From then on, I haven't told too many people about the latest work I'm doing. Better to keep it close, anyway, I think. But still, sorry about your disappointment.

thanks for posting your thoughts, everyone. and thanks for that story, Jeff.
I'm not so much disappointed about my narration not airing, it's the missed marketing opportunity that sucks. i'll still use it (whether on my resume or as a story in my monthly newsletter), but it doesn't have the same impact.
in any case - today i got a phone call from... oh, ooops - nevermind.

You should be proud, none of us got chosen, you did! That is one heck of an accomplishment in my book. We are still quite proud of you.
