I need to make one more round trip this year to keep my preferred status on US Airways and found an amazingly inexpensive round trip ticket to Boston so I'm going to finally make good on my long time promise to come to New England. I'll arrive around 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 13th and will depart shortly after Noon the next day.
As yet I don't have a hotel booked for that Saturday night, but would welcome suggestions for a suburb in which to stay. I strongly prefer Hilton chain hotels, because I also have preferred status with them. Marriott chain would be OK too. I will rent a car so I'll be able to transport myself to where ever I need to go.
I'm very much looking forward to getting to spend at least a little bit of time with as many of you as I can. _________________ Be well,

Sunday morning is a possibility for me, Bob. I have to be at WGBH by 11:00am, but you'd certainly be worth a drive up a couple of hours earlier. But let's see if a few other people jump on board. If Saturday is better for more people, that's also a possibility, as I can usually juggle things around.
Can't personally vouch for hotels in the city (although there are many), but a good friend of mine stays at a Marriot in Quincy (about 10 miles south of Boston) whenever he comes to MA.
Heading out the door now, but I'll be watching this thread. |

Well, shoot, Moe... You already know how to point to the Marriott in Natick, right?
I'm definitely gonna work out the details to come down as well! The day has come! .gif" alt="W00T" border="0" /> _________________ Greg Littlefield

Tell me the details and I'm there! I'm not familiar w/ any of the hotels but Woburn or Natick would probably be best and both spots are easy to get to from the airport. The one in Worcester is ok but that's an hour from Boston and if you were going to do that then I'd just make you stay here! No charge, loud little kids, and I'd let you play with my DAT and reel to reel. Enticing, no? _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Just a couple of thoughts...
Even on a Saturday, parking in the heart of the city will probably be a pain, and expensive. I met two friends for dinner in Back Bay a few weeks ago and couldn't find a meter so had to park at the Pru garage. And hour and a half cost me $34. That's more than I paid for my meal.
Lord knows there are gazillions of restaurants in and around the city. If you want to play tourist and see the sights, then prepare to pay. If you're willing to go a little outside the city and forego the sightseeing, you still have a lot of good choices. Although I don't even know if there's an Olive Garden in the city ( ) I'm sure others will have suggestions, so I'll only mention a couple that I'm familiar with.
The Stockyard gets good reviews, and it has plenty of free parking. And since it's right across the street from 'GBH, I could give you a little mini-tour of the station after or before.
Vinny T's is in Back Bay (and about a block from the huge new Apple Store). It's where my friends and I met for dinner a couple of weeks ago. Good Italian food, but that's where parking was an issue for me. Might be different on a weekend, but I'm not sure.
Legal Sea Foods is a favorite of a lot of people, if you're fond of seafood. There are several locations in Boston (possible parking issues) and one newer location about 10-15 miles south of Boston at the South Shore Plaza. Free parking at the Plaza, but in December, good luck finding a spot.
Or there's always IHOP. |

Stockyard- great and almost plenty of parking but you need to make a res.
Vinny T's - not worth it. At all. Loud and louder. Food isn't good enough. If you're going to have that sort of crowd you might as well go to the North End and get a good meal.
Legal is top-notch and there is one in Brookline that has plenty of parking. But the traffic getting there can be harsh. And a res is a must. mmm, but the food. mmmmm.
There are placing all over the city but if Bob is going to go for the more suburban hotels then we should wait and see what he decides. I'm very familiar with so many of the restaurants (but proud to say not the hotels, hee) in and around the city.
A very serious alternative, if you want to be crazy, I'd host closer to the city, at my in-laws in Belmont. It's large enough, cheaper and plenty of parking. And they would love it and gladly offer up the house. While going to a restaurant is pain free for everyone, going to the Nelsons is homey and fun. It's worth thinking about. It really is the kind of place we can kick back and be ourselves (if it weren't then the inlaws would have kicked me out years ago!). Dogs welcome, too .
That said, I'm all over getting out! _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Count me in as well. I'd prefer Saturday but will do Sunday. We definitely want to find some place slighly outside of Boston to gather. The S&S restaurant in Cambridge has good food and two free parking lots, and oh yes, it's just a couple blocks away from my flat.
I can hardly wait!!!! BTW Delana says she wants to come as well. She feels she knows you are the long phone chats. |

If Moe will have me, I'll drive in with her, or if it's not workable, I'll drive in myself; anywhere's fine with me. I concur on the lousy parking downtown. We could also try the north end if anybody's up for Italian, but there the parking is definitely sucky. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |
