As an Aspie, I've spent my life gratefully knowledgeable about some things... yet woefully clueless about many things others grasp immediately. Subtleties, some sarcasm, inside jokes, etc. go right over my head, leaving me in a vacuum.
So, lest I spend the rest of my days here in an undertow of uncertainty, and as this year is the 10th anniversary of both my membership and of the first mentions of these two things, I'd sure appreciate it if someone could please explain the significance of:
watercress and llamas.
Many thanks. _________________ Mike

Mike, you're fine. I don't really know either, but joined in the llama conversation because it was suitably absurd and bizarre. |

Mike,
If you dig back into the archives of CHAT to the end of March 2007 you'll find the origins of the llama. It was a bit of silliness started by some of those here who were not able to be at VOICE 2007 in Las Vegas, while those of us who were at VOICE that year were busy at the conference.
As for the watercress, if I recall correctly some where around the same time, a photo of a lovely young lady wearing nothing but a bunch of watercress (that she was hugging to her chest) was posted (again as a random bit of silliness) and thus the legend of the watercress was born.
In both cases, the origins are so lost in the mists of (relatively ancient) history the they have both become legendary here at the VO-BB. _________________ Be well,

Over time I have looked at "watercress & llamas" as the unofficial handshake phrase of the VO-BB. The next time you attend a VO convention. Approach anyone there, and say the phrase "watercress & llamas". If they respond in same... you are with family. _________________ "Bailey"

OK, there was a picture of a fair maiden clutching a bundle of watercress. But a search of the term watercress doesn't seem to turn up the original post. _________________ Playing for a living...

Connie... Was the original post started by Philip? This is the oldest I could find mentioning watercress. Search watercress by Post... not Topic.

Twas I who posted the pic of the fair maiden. The watercress festival website which hosted the original image has since taken it down. I've searched the Google a few times over the years looking for her to no avail. I do remember DB posting the pic a couple of times, maybe she still has it. |

And that's all there is to llamas and watercress. Now, dark chocolate, on the other hand ... _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

I just did a quick Google search on the original image file name and turned up, guess what, the original:
