I just happened upon http://us.voicespro.com. I created a profile and it seems like a good site. But why is it free? And why are there so few voiceover actors on it? There must be a catch, right?

Here's my page:

The featured talent probably pays a premium, and the Google Ads count for something.

Isn't this the US version of a UK talent database? Maybe I am confusing it with something else.

The "profile" descriptions seem quite detailed. I wonder if they are using it to filter out "lesser known" talents that have little or no experience?

Of course, if it provides another link to your domain, it cant be all bad. One-way links are great in Google's eyes.

Is this perhaps a startup? A lot of exteraneous information there . I suppose it can't harm you to have one more link to you as a resource....

The more links to you the better in Google's eyes. The more links, the higher the page rank and the closer to the front page on a search you will appear. Of course that is the overly simplified answer, but for all intents it works that way. I look at it as free advertising. The more you can be visible on the vast wasteland that is the Internet, the better.
