ARGHHH. So now that I have this nifty Blue Snowball mic I'm thinking I'll be able to get auditions in faster and have more of a chance of actually having an audition heard on V123. I'm doing auditions as they come in on my laptop, recording in Sound Forge, they sound pretty good, and I'm usually one of the first 20 in. And all I've been getting are these emails saying "Thank you for your answer to posting #blah blah blah........", you know the one.

There has been enough talk on here about V123, the pros and cons, mostly the cons, so let's not rehash again. But I'm venting here.....I actually used to get work from this site, even when I wasn't one of the first 50 to post. I'm getting work in other places, so I know I don't stink at this. What is going on? I'm not cheap, but I'm not THAT expensive. Do you think it's a pricing thing? I just renewed my membership, and I have the sinking feeling I've wasted my money.

Woe is me, and pissed off is me. Is anybody here getting work from this site at any sort of a decent price? Jeeze Louise...........!

I'm with you!

Ninja

I think it's good to vent about it. Nothing like a good rant to get you straight to the bottle. I've progressed from tequila to Jim Beam!

Kevin got it right when he mentioned that the business model is wrong. There's no accountability and it is all on the talent.

I'm running Audacity through a sound card on my machine, thus I don't do Pro Tools, my vocal booth with good mic and a bounce to mp3. So, I've got a mic running to a mixer running to the soundcard, outside of the vocal booth. In other words, I can run directly to my sound card to v123's recorder or record in Audacity and save as MP3, and do a real fast on the upload.

Hasn't helped. I don't even read the "sorry Charlie" E-mails anymore. No need to waste more time.

Let's see the numbers here:

Signed up about 14 months ago ... and only renewed after receiving a "This one's for you!" It wasn't and didn't result in any work, at all. Here are the numbers. Incidentally, IV doesn't give 'em.

Answered: 1,232 (lots of "deep voices" -- my Formats 80-100 hz)
Deleted: 298
Expired: 475
Scored: 3 or 4 (I've actually lost count, the number is so small)

And, then, I got a note last Friday about an auditon I did several months ago. I guess I made the short list.

Did someone mention that a definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result?

I've had better luck going to gatherings of one type or another (art galleries are really cool), meeting people and other artists, drinking wine, eating cheeze and looking at great art. I scored one gig after jamming with a piano player who also happened to be a VP at a company. Did I mention I didn't have to pay to play?

I made the mistake of giving them my money - and I did pick up a little work, and one contact did turn out to be a very good recurring account.

But, considering the low ball Bozos out there looking for someone who sounds as good as Gene Hackman or James Earl Jones - and they're willing to pay as much as thirty or forty dollars if they must - I just decided I could make out a little better if I just went out and started picking up pop cans from along side the road.

I've been with v123 for about a month and have done probably 30 auditions. Haven't even gotten a "sorry charlie." NO responses at all. Does it even take awhile for a rejection? I got rejections much quicker in high school. cool

WoW!!!! You actually get responses! How cool is that!!!?

Just a thought... Is the V123 fee considered a business loss on your income taxes?

I'm with you on this one Kitzie! I've been with V123 for almost a year. NO work at all. Only ONE thank you note and one "we like your sound" note. I will not be renewing my membership. Same result for me on Interactive Voices...except no responses at all...not even a thank you note. Not renewing there either.

Well, it's a business expense. Absolutely. It's on my list of deductions.

Remember in "Good Will Hunting" where Williams' character tells Damon's character, "It's not your fault" - well, here's one to you, kit, "it's not your fault... it's not your fault... IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT." Really it isn't. Not a pricing thing. Not a talent thing. It's just the way it is.

even if it's not v123, most of your auditions should be done and forgotten about. even in the "real" world, 99 times out of 100 you won't hear a word if they don't choose you or you don't get called back for a 2nd audition.

I actually prefer NOT to have a "thanks but no thanks" notification from V123. I do the audition, I forget about it. In fact, it irritates me a bit to get them. If there was an option to turn them off I would.

Me too. Most annoying. Auditions are part of the game. Do 'em, and forget about 'em. It's like bad Karma coming back to bite you in the arse. We should have a "Well, screw you!" reply button Laugh
