A noble effort Mahmoud but I confess to losing the will to live less than half way through the article. I did quite like the criticisim of the contributors by name especially after you "honoured" them.

"Why didn't you do as you were asked you insolent pigs? But, thank you, I expected this, so hahahahah!" Laugh

On a serious note. I saw that some people liked the statistics provided by the P2P sites. I've no idea why as they are both completely accurate and totally useless.

It's all about the statistics for some folks Mr. Banks.

I appreciate you finding the will to live and going through all 3000 some words.

I know what you mean about statistics and so do the sites. They are designed to distract people from the fact they are not getting enough work but with the statitics at least they know why or THINK they know why ....They don't really.

The most important statistic would be "how much did the top earning voice get from work on ABCVO.com?" You'll either get a confidentiality excuse or a competitor excuse. Why not apply the same "excuse" to the other stats? Because they're useless, that's why.

Taji, my dear—

People don't reply if they have nothing to say!
I don't have anything to add because I don't use pay-to-play sites at all and have nothing to bring to the table.

It's possible that the 53 views you got were from people who are satisfied with the P2Ps, don't have a clue how to improve them if they aren't satisfied, or, as in my case, have nothing to offer.

makes sense... or they could be old horror movie buffs.
I know established folks like yourself have no need for the P2Ps Deirdre... in my case looking for an international audience requires me to use these sites... (because 99% of my work is Arabic VO).

And I'm afraid some of us may have withheld comment simply because these topics have been beaten to death.

Agree with Lee. Plus the P2P sites already have a business model that works for them, so what's the point of hashing out what would make them better? It's not like they're going to change.

I agree with Lee and Kafer and Banksey. And tonight I will be experimenting with coffee and that blog post. Don't wake me.

Sure we could consider this a dead horse... but with the right amount of infiltration and with enough Key Opinion Leaders speaking out almost any issue can be revised.

P2P websites are a part of the industry now... no matter how annoyed you can get at them or how frustrating their business model is. So you can do one of two things. You can ignore them completely and go on getting work from other sources. Or you can work with them and try to get to know the people behind the scenes and try to make your voice heard directly.

I'm not trying to change their business model... because to a certain degree you're right... if it aint broke they won't fix it. But! they are always trying to improve and with a number of new p2p voice casting sites popping up the competition is growing...which means that the once dominant monopoly is losing money to other sites... so they're looking for ways to upgrade.

Some of the sites don't even want to pay for product development or market research... they kind of just arbitrarily make changes thinking that that is what the people want. If we stop talking then they stop listening.

So I collected as much as I could from all the different VO demographics and presented the vo sites with what we'd like the experience to be like... this is good as well as bad for them... because I didn't just give this to one of them... I gave it to all of them.. The ones that make the changes are listening which will mean that a number of the other sites clients might migrate to their system (assuming that most vo talents don't become members of all the p2p sites at the same time).

Ultimatly I hope a new website will be built from the ground up with the ideas presented in the article as an integral part of their core.

Thats my 1 Egyptian pound's worth

Just to be clear, my "beaten to death" comment was not in any way a suggestion that you not persue this; it merely an explanation of why I (and a apparently a few others) have not chimed in on the subject.

Thank you Lee for the Clarification. So far 3 out of the 4 major P2Ps have confirmed reading the articles and receiving the message. 2 of them (vplanet and bodalgo) have participated in the discussion.

I know voices.com are currently moving to their new offices (via voxmarkatising) and am yet to hear from them.

I'll try to get in contact with Steven Lowell from V123 today and see his bosses reaction.

Methinks them be not bad results... for now.

I applaud your effort. For the P2P's it is all about the money. One claimed 10,000 voices. Multiply that by $300 and it is 3 million a year from talent only. They have other revenue streams as well.

I too think it is a bad biz model. But why would they consider change when they get suckers to pay?

Somone on your blog said they should be called online agencies. But they are not. They don't work for you. They get paid whether or not they get you work. A real online agency similar in concept to the brick and motar version woiuld be nice. Good luck but I think you are wasting your time presenting you info to the P2P's.
