So. I've auditioned for a paltry 12% of the auditions that "SmartCast" has sent. That, arguably, is "highly selective." Yet I just topped the 200% mark (again) "compared to others with similar blah, blah, blah."
*sigh*
I really *want* to like V123...even though it was a tough choice to resign after swearing I'd never do it again four years ago.
Just wanted to get that off my chest.
Alright. Coffee break's over...back on my head. _________________ ab

And what's too selective? They're paying what my rate is, I'll audition. Seems simple enough.
I haven't jumped back on board with V123, (or voices.com) as of yet. _________________ Company, villainous company, hath been the spoil of me...

I subscribe to the "Bird in the Hand" theory, when it comes to Voice123. If the penalty for replying to too many auditions is to not receive future auditions, then the result is the same. I'm not going to pass up an opportunity now for fear of losing one later. If the gig pays enough and it's one I feel well qualified to do, I go for it. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

I'm a bit miffed at the idea that any audition counts "against" me, even if it's never "opened" by the voice seeker.
Still, my philosophy is that I'll never hit the balls at which I do not swing. And I agree that Quote: | I'm not going to pass up an opportunity now for fear of losing one later. |
Well said and wise.

I understand, Andy. But the way it was before was a nightmare for talent-- and for casting people. The same audition monkeys kept piling onto each listing and seemed to have nothing else going on but to sit on the computer around the clock and shoot off half-assed audio .
Voice seekers got a million auditions, most of which were horrific. Voice talent were complaining that they couldn't even break into the first fifty auditions, and a lot of auds didn't get heard because the first dozen+ were cr@p.
SmartCast has had a bumpy road but, ultimately, I think it's the best solution to all of the inherent problems. The transparency is key. And the system guides people toward not auditioning for everything with an "Yeah, I can probably do that" attitude but waiting for something closer to "Yeah, Baby! This is exactly ME!" _________________ the Amy Snively family of brands for all your branded thing needs.

Don't like it?
Then go to Voices.com, or VOPlanet, or any other v/o site where you can gleefully sit glued to your computer all day, every day waiting to pounce on every single audition that comes in, desperately trying NOT to be number 176 out of 243 people auditioning for a $100 job, (since there are absolutely NO auditioning restrictions whatsoever there), and, wherein the client is only going to listen to the first 18 before they find what they want, anyway.
I love V123. The more people who hate it and walk away, the happier I am.
That's less competition for me. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

Audition Monkeys?
HEY!
It makes sense. I'm not the voice for movie trailers, or morning radio ID's, and I did get a couple of well paid gigs off of V123. For the price, it's good exposure as long as it doesn't suck up time from other marketing that you're working on.
As a facet of a business plan I think it's ok, as the whole thing... nope. _________________ Company, villainous company, hath been the spoil of me...

If V123 was my entire business plan, I'd be living in a cardboard box down by the railroad tracks...regardless of the successes I've had there. (Talk about recording noise issues!) _________________ ab

I think we should register it and form a ska band. _________________ the Amy Snively family of brands for all your branded thing needs.

I once described the Voice sites as "like throwing a hot dog in a piranha tank."
One gig, 9 million auditions. I had some success at Voices.com, but I decided not to spend too much time and energy on it. Better to drum up my own work. _________________ http://toddvoice.com/ |
