|
|
I had one of my M-Audio BX5a monitors die...electrical problem...changed out the fuse and it blew again in a millisecond. I've had them for about 5-6 years so I guess that's OK. Too expensive to get fixed.
So, I went hunting for a new pair of the current model (put a D2 on the end of the name) and while most were going for $249 to $299, I found them at B&H for $219 and free shipping. Up to 8 days to get here but I can get by on mono for now.

I got my D2's new on eBay for a similar price and like 'em a lot! I think you will too, Bruce! _________________ "Dammit Jim, I'm a voice actor, not an audio engineer!"

Bruce! Good deal.
Just tie one hand behind your back so you talk in mono too!

I had a pair of BX5a's, and had been very happy with them. I experienced a problem similar to Bruce's - one just went dead one day. They were long out of warranty, so I took them to my local music store to have them serviced.
Turns out that M-Audio doesn't service these things - they aren't "service friendly". All the components in the power supplies, etc are epoxied in place. They're landfill. What M-Audio does instead is offer to sell you a new pair at a VERY fair price. I paid $100+ shipping, I think, and received a brand new pair of the newer models. Pretty good customer service, in my opinion. Too bad they don't make the product more serviceable. _________________ Graeme Spicer

Gee, if I'd only stayed on hold on their technical support line for an additional 40 minutes instead of eventually hanging up, I might have gotten such a deal. Poop I say.

I love my BX5a monitors, but they developed the common problem of leaking capacitors. It was well documented on the internet and luckily these are replaceable. I did it myself for a few bucks. I know the inside of these units intimately! Next time something comes up, I'll see what M-Audio has to say. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

You could always call back and pretend to be someone else. That's what we do |

Bruce,
I've got one you can have. The other one died years ago (tried a repair that quickly sent that unit to the trash).

Did you quote yourself from another time you offered Bruce a monitor? |

Uhhh. No.
I haven't been around for awhile and the rest is incompetence. He can have the monitor, through.
Anyway, I need to do an ISDN chain test. Anybody around to see if I can connect, perhaps later this evening or tomorrow? Send me a PM.
