I had one of my M-Audio BX5a monitors die...electrical problem...changed out the fuse and it blew again in a millisecond. I've had them for about 5-6 years so I guess that's OK. Too expensive to get fixed.

So, I went hunting for a new pair of the current model (put a D2 on the end of the name) and while most were going for $249 to $299, I found them at B&H for $219 and free shipping. Up to 8 days to get here but I can get by on mono for now.

I got my D2's new on eBay for a similar price and like 'em a lot! I think you will too, Bruce!

Bruce! Good deal.

Just tie one hand behind your back so you talk in mono too!

I had a pair of BX5a's, and had been very happy with them. I experienced a problem similar to Bruce's - one just went dead one day. They were long out of warranty, so I took them to my local music store to have them serviced.

Turns out that M-Audio doesn't service these things - they aren't "service friendly". All the components in the power supplies, etc are epoxied in place. They're landfill. What M-Audio does instead is offer to sell you a new pair at a VERY fair price. I paid $100+ shipping, I think, and received a brand new pair of the newer models. Pretty good customer service, in my opinion. Too bad they don't make the product more serviceable.

Gee, if I'd only stayed on hold on their technical support line for an additional 40 minutes instead of eventually hanging up, I might have gotten such a deal. Poop I say.

I love my BX5a monitors, but they developed the common problem of leaking capacitors. It was well documented on the internet and luckily these are replaceable. I did it myself for a few bucks. I know the inside of these units intimately! Next time something comes up, I'll see what M-Audio has to say.

You could always call back and pretend to be someone else. That's what we do Smile

Bruce,

I've got one you can have. The other one died years ago (tried a repair that quickly sent that unit to the trash).

Did you quote yourself from another time you offered Bruce a monitor?

Uhhh. No.

I haven't been around for awhile and the rest is incompetence. He can have the monitor, through.

Anyway, I need to do an ISDN chain test. Anybody around to see if I can connect, perhaps later this evening or tomorrow? Send me a PM.

Thanks,
