I am curious what experiences you have approaching businesses where you live for VO work? Has it been fruitful? What approaches have worked for you? _________________ http://neilkhessvo.com |

For the most part it tends to be non-productive as we are not, for the most part "end user" suppliers. |

Who you need to talk to is the people they contact to make commercials and training videos for them. |

Local business don't make commercials or elearning. They hire companies to produce them. THOSE are the people you need to get in front of. _________________ Jeff

...plus most (not necessarily all) the local places you might have access to would have their ads...if they do broadcast at all...created for free as part of the media buy. even the ones who are nice enough to talk to you will probably blanche at a professional VO rate. and then when they wake up, you'll have to tell them about audio production charges you might have to add.
locally, you'd be better off contacting companies who do their own corporate training/internal videos and that sort of thing. if you have a university near by, that's also a possibility. _________________ rowell gormon

The one area this might work is telephony. Granted it would be small gigs we're talking, but it'd be a way to start, and if they don't "do" their own messaging in house- you could get the info for the company they hire who does their phone messaging. Telephony is the red headed step child of VO work- but the checks don't bounce. _________________ Moe Egan

i started out doing message on hold for local interconnects - i offered them a bulk deal if they bought 5 or more at a time then as they sold them to their customers - or bundled them in with phone systems - i cut them. it worked out pretty well - nearly 20 years later i still have those MOH jobs drift through every few months. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Not usually, but one guy I did a telephony job for is currently serving a 70 year prison sentence. But it is true, his check didn't bounce -- because he never sent it. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Word to the wise(guy): You could end up pulling big time in the hoosegow if you don't fork over the do-re-mi to Lee Gordon. An' that's Mr. Gordon to you.

Yeah. That, and kidnapping and threatening to kill your ex-wife. And setting arson fires to not one but two houses. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.
