|
|
I'm in the beginning process of re-doing my commercial demo, and gathering spots. I've heard that you should always start with your money voice, but I've also heard that you should start with a big name client, so I'm polling the collective wisdom of the VO-BB to see what your preference is.
Of course, ideally, the national spot WOULD be your money voice, but in my case, that is not the case. My money voice is natural/conversational, and the spot I want to use is semi-perky announcer.
What say the VO-BB? I'm sure I'll test the flow both ways and ultimately find what works best, but I'm just curious what you'd do, all things being equal. _________________ Always look on the bright side of life.

What we think is (mostly) irrelevant.
Top-level agents and major talent buyers (or, people who hire lots of talent for the type of work you do lots of) are whose opinions you want to consider.
That said, demo order:
- Fabulous read
- Fabulous read (slightly different from the first)
- Nearly fabulous read (makes the other reads sound better)
- Fabulous read (slightly different from the others)
- Repeat _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

In my experience, clients and agents will all have an opinion as to what your "money voice" is. So it's all relative.
After getting a lot of input from clients and agents, I've come to conclude that a name brand, and something that shows off your acting chops are two key essentials to launching your demo _________________ Lee Kanne

In my experience prospective clients are not necessarily impressed with a big name gig (which in their jaded eyes is probably fake anyway). Start with your money voice... you'll get more gigs from "Oooo.... I like that voice" than from "Hey... she's done work for Macy's".
I always preferred Sheffield Wednesday's strip. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

I forgot about the "it's probably fake" factor... _________________ Always look on the bright side of life.

MONEY VOICE for the win.
You have 3 seconds to make them decide whether or not to continue listening. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Better make it 6 seconds. Most clients will need the extra 3 seconds to put down the coffee cup and say, "That's it!" ...or "Next!" _________________ "Bailey"

The first cut should be in a style that producers are buying now, and at the same time is uniquely you. I believe you want them to think, "she's good and she doesn't sound like the last five women I've listened to."
