So a client wanted something today with a couple options.
That is, they wanted 2 reads but they're essentially the same. They wanted to hear a couple different reads to work with so the script went something like: "Roger went to the AAA clinic for help"
and
"Roger went to the AAA clinic of podiatry for help"
I gave them a quote for essentially 1 piece of copy cause they were so short but clarified that 'if you're using 1 for the ad [TV spot] then I'll just charge you for 1.'
Was I right in charging them for just 1 or did I screw myself?
They're a KIND OF a regular client (last worked for them in August) so didn't want to pick them up by their heels and shake out the coins. _________________ www.moosevoice.com |

I personally don't add to the rate if the client wants an alt line so they can choose which one they want to use in there. As long as they paid you for the session and the use, then there is no need to charge more just so they have options. That's like charging if they wanted a faster and a slower read of the same script. |

Jason nailed it. A session is a session. Union commercial sessions are 90 minutes. During that time they can re-write to their heart's desire. After 90 minutes, or if they want you back the next day with changes, that's a separate session. But adjusting text within the session??? Standard. |

Both of you nailed it.

Now, if they decide to use one line in a TV spot and the other option in a radio spot, then you may have to go back to the table...
Multiple takes and alternate copy is just par for course. You should see some commercial copy when the session is done. Not only are words slashed and/or re-written, but they are also rearranged.
"Start with the second sentence of the second paragraph, then jump back to the beginning, but use the new words." _________________ Playing for a living...

I read the subject as optician. Apparently I can't even read a line, let alone the optional. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.
